In the Labyrinth, we had a saying: keep silent, keep still, keep safe.

In a city of walls and secrets, where only one man is supposed to possess magic, seventeen-year-old Kai struggles to keep hidden her own secret—she can manipulate the threads of time. When Kai was eight, she was found by Reev on the riverbank, and her “brother” has taken care of her ever since. Kai doesn’t know where her ability comes from—or where she came from. All that matters is that she and Reev stay together, and maybe one day move out of the freight container they call home, away from the metal walls of the Labyrinth. Kai’s only friend is Avan, the shopkeeper’s son with the scandalous reputation that both frightens and intrigues her.

Then Reev disappears. When keeping silent and safe means losing him forever, Kai vows to do whatever it takes to find him. She will leave the only home she’s ever known and risk getting caught up in a revolution centuries in the making. But to save Reev, Kai must unravel the threads of her past and face shocking truths about her brother, her friendship with Avan, and her unique power.

When it comes to Waiting on Wednesday I always pick a book that will be released the same week, the week after, or within that month. However, this doesn’t seem to apply for this weeks Waiting on Wednesday. All the books that are coming out this month I either got very lucky and got an e-ARC or I’m not THAT excited for it to be released and probably won’t buy it or read anytime soon. So I had to go and search for a book coming out in August!

I added Gates of Thread and Stone to my tbr shelf in May and when I first came across it on Goodreads all I saw was Fantasy and Time travel and I automatically added it to my shelf. And of course there was the beautiful design on the cover that caught my eye, can you blame me?! Look at that cover! It’s just so beautiful. At I later date I finally decided to read the synopsis and I was even more excited for its release!! There are 5 books in total for the month of August that I’m beyond excited for and Gates of Thread and Stone is #1! What are the other 4 you ask? You’ll just have to wait and see ;).

An action-packed, blood-soaked, futuristic debut thriller set in a world where the murder rate is higher than the birthrate. For fans of Moira Young’s Dust Lands series, La Femme Nikita, and the movie Hanna.

Meadow Woodson, a fifteen-year-old girl who has been trained by her father to fight, to kill, and to survive in any situation, lives with her family on a houseboat in Florida. The state is controlled by The Murder Complex, an organization that tracks the population with precision.

The plot starts to thicken when Meadow meets Zephyr James, who is—although he doesn’t know it—one of the MC’s programmed assassins. Is their meeting a coincidence? Destiny? Or part of a terrifying strategy? And will Zephyr keep Meadow from discovering the haunting truth about her family?

Action-packed, blood-soaked, and chilling, this is a dark and compelling debut novel by Lindsay Cummings.

This actually was released yesterday but I still decided to keep it for my Waiting On Wednesday post. I have been waiting for this book to be released; it even made the list for my Top Ten Tuesdays (1): Top Ten 2014 Debuts I’m Excited For. So I’m highly looking forward to heading to Chapters and picking this book up, hopefully today if not this weekend!

I’m also hoping that this will be the book that will break me into the Dystopia genre. Minus 1984 and The Giver the only Dystopian book I’ve read is The 5th Wave, which dragged me into a reading slump back in January and I haven’t been able to finish it since! I own a couple that fall under this category but none have really appealed to me as much as The Murder Complex does.

Tainted Touch by Lucy V. Morgan | New Cover

taintedtouch-cover-finalTainted Touch

Author: Lucy V. Morgan
Genre: New Adult, Romance
Expected Publication Date: March 31st, 2014
Format: Kindle
Designed by: Kenny Wright

Synopsis:
Twenty-year-old Caitlyn McCoe likes logic, cake and breaking a sweat. In that order. What she doesn’t like is the fact that her manipulative ex, Dominic, has crawled out of the woodwork after their breakup last summer. She needs to concentrate on passing her business degree, not telling him to get lost. But fantasising about Fist Candy–the boxer she loves to watch at the gym, where she works–is excellent escapism. He’s beautiful, untouchable…and safe.

Until he’s her new co-worker. And then he’s not safe at all.

Art Lyons was a rising star on the boxing circuit and a brilliant student. Then he dropped out, disappeared, and has just resurfaced as the new sports massage therapist at Caitlyn’s gym. He doesn’t want to talk about why he’s no longer at uni; he doesn’t want to explain the tattooed slashes across his hip.

But he’s troubled by the connection he feels between the punch bag and the brush of a lover’s fingers. He wants to use his hands to heal, not hurt. Caitlyn clams up when her friends go to hug her; after Dominic, something changed beneath her skin, twists the things she feels. If Art can find a way to reach beyond that, he could help her. She could heal him.

That’s if they don’t break each other first…

LucyAuthors Bio

Lucy V. Morgan writes sharp contemporary fiction, usually with a liberal splatter of filth. She is the author of the dark, hot KNIVES & FLOWERS duo and the stand-alones TWISTED SUMMER and BEAUTIFUL MESS.

In her new adult parody, TOUSLE ME, Lucy pays homage to her genre in the best way she knows how: by mocking it mercilessly.

Lucy lives in England, where she also works as an editor. She spends her spare time consuming lebkuchen, working through her TBR pile, and pretending she’s an urban fantasy heroine in body combat classes.

Interview with Kate Avery Ellison

Describe Of Sea and Stone in six words.
Atlantis, steampunk, sunlight, seawater, secrets, romance.

What books have you read and loved lately?
I am almost finished with Finnikin of the Rock by Melina Marchetta, and it’s an absolute delight. Witty, immersive, and utterly compelling fantasy that reminds me very much of my beloved Megan Whalen Turner books.

What authors have influenced your writing style the most?
I grew up on a pretty steady diet of mystery, actually, so I feel like classic mystery authors like Agatha Christie had a strong influence on me. When I was a teenager, I started reading fantasy by authors like Robin McKinley, Gail Carson Levine, and Sherwood Smith. The Blue Sword, Ella Enchanted, Crown Duel…I loved those books. I also had a huge love of historical fiction, so Ann Rinaldi, Elizabeth George Speare, and Eloise Jarvis McGraw influenced me a lot as well. As far as more recently-written books that I didn’t grow up reading, I continue to be an awe of fantasy authors Megan Whalen Turner (The Thief, The Queen of Attolia, etc.) and Melina Marchetta (Finnikin of the Rock), dystopian author Suzanne Collins (The Hunger Games), and contemporary young adult authors Lucy Christopher (Stolen) and John Green (A Fault in Our Stars).

Are you working on anything else currently?
Yes! I’m currently hard at work on the second book in the Secrets of Itlantis series, and I’m also working on a few secret projects on the side—one is a more traditional fantasy, another is a post-apocalyptic novel. I hope to have more details about them for my readers very soon.

About the Author

Blackness Takes Over is Norma Jeanne’s debut novel. What began as an homage to the home town of a homesick Midwestern girl, unfolded a story of love, danger, humor, and trust. She’s currently working on her untitled sophomore effort. We can’t wait to see what thrilling saga she leads us through next!

Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, Norma Jeanne recently found herself relocating to the United Kingdom. Now living in Belfast, she took hold of the opportunity to kick the 9-5 job for a chance to become an author. The best part: working from her home office, she gets to spend more time with her cast of crazy characters (written and real).

In her free time Norma Jeanne is a voracious reader and consumes books as readily as meals. She is a people watcher by nature and uses her experiences in life, observed or otherwise, to build the worlds and characters that thrive in her books. A believer in the strength of the human spirit, Norma Jeanne writes the stories of people that persevere when all appears to be lost.
