**Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights highly anticipated upcoming releases.**

A Mad, Wicked Folly by Sharon Biggs Waller
Genre: YA, Historical Fiction
Publication Date: January 23rd, 2014
Purchase: Indigo / Barnes & Noble / Amazon

Synopsis:
Welcome to the world of the fabulously wealthy in London, 1909, where dresses and houses are overwhelmingly opulent, social class means everything, and women are taught to be nothing more than wives and mothers. Into this world comes seventeen-year-old Victoria Darling, who wants only to be an artist—a nearly impossible dream for a girl.

After Vicky poses nude for her illicit art class, she is expelled from her French finishing school. Shamed and scandalized, her parents try to marry her off to the wealthy Edmund Carrick-Humphrey. But Vicky has other things on her mind: her clandestine application to the Royal College of Art; her participation in the suffragette movement; and her growing attraction to a working-class boy who may be her muse—or may be the love of her life. As the world of debutante balls, corsets, and high society obligations closes in around her, Vicky must figure out: just how much is she willing to sacrifice to pursue her dreams?

I had this sitting in my drafts and forgot to publish this! First of all, the cover. SO PRETTY!! That is what automatically pulled me. And then there is the fact that it falls under historical fiction, which is a new genre to me that I’m starting to love!! Scandals, debutante balls and corsets count me in!!

Waiting on Wednesday (1): Cruel Beauty

**Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights highly anticipated upcoming releases.**

Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge
Genre: Fantasy, YA
Publication Date: January 28th, 2014
Purchase: Chapters / Kobo
Barnes & Noble / Amazon

Graceling meets Beauty and the Beast in this sweeping fantasy about one girl’s journey to fulfill her destiny and the monster who gets in her way-by stealing her heart.

Based on the classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast, Cruel Beauty is a dazzling love story about our deepest desires and their power to change our destiny.

Since birth, Nyx has been betrothed to the evil ruler of her kingdom-all because of a foolish bargain struck by her father. And since birth, she has been in training to kill him.

With no choice but to fulfill her duty, Nyx resents her family for never trying to save her and hates herself for wanting to escape her fate. Still, on her seventeenth birthday, Nyx abandons everything she’s ever known to marry the all-powerful, immortal Ignifex. Her plan? Seduce him, destroy his enchanted castle, and break the nine-hundred-year-old curse he put on her people.

But Ignifex is not at all what Nyx expected. The strangely charming lord beguiles her, and his castle-a shifting maze of magical rooms-enthralls her.

As Nyx searches for a way to free her homeland by uncovering Ignifex’s secrets, she finds herself unwillingly drawn to him. Even if she could bring herself to love her sworn enemy, how can she refuse her duty to kill him? With time running out, Nyx must decide what is more important: the future of her kingdom, or the man she was never supposed to love.

TBR From My Shelves – 2014

*This was originally posted by Lisa Likes Books, thank you Lisa!*

On Dec. 28th, 2013 I originally started going through my 2 bookcases with the intention of adding all the books that I own to Goodreads. This, as I have posted, turned out to be way too stressful! I got as far as 308 books and decided to stop, there is still about half of a bookshelf to add. Also, this list doesn’t include my ebooks (226)!! However, what I came to learn is that I own 204 books that I have not read!! I am notorious for always buying new books at Chapters, I can’t help myself!! Every time I go to Chapters or a bookstore, Because of this, I have created a 2014 goal, I want to read at least 50 books from the long list of 204 books that I own and haven’t read.

I am not going to list all 50 right now. But I’m hoping to start with 5 books per month and just go from there! BTW, this list include ebooks.

Goodreads + Bookshelf…Why, Oh WHY!?

Today I made the decision to go through my 2 bookshelves (both are white ikea Expedit shelves) and add what is missing to my Goodreads. This has to turned out to be such a stressful task! I’ve now noticed books that are missing aka I lent out and never got back, books I need to re-read, and books that I haven’t read. My own-to-read shelf on GR just keeps growing…and i’m nowhere close to being done! Sigh.

New shelves I added to GR:

  • “buy-back” – all the books I lent out and never got back
  • “own” – just so I have an easy way to know the amount of books I own 🙂
  • “read-again” – books I read so long ago that I want to re-read
  • “series-to-finish” – series that I’ve started but haven’t finished

Having added those new shelves i’m now at 29!! WOOT! I’m also moving in less than a month and this book shelf looks like a bomb went off! I would post a picture of it, but I’m worried I’ll be judge. It’s so unorganized and messy, should I clean it up? Or just leave it since it’ll all be going into boxes soon?! Mhmm…can’t decided. Thoughts?

Add me on Goodreads!
